"Immediately they left their nets and followed him." Matthew 4:20
The call of Jesus to the apostles must have had a mighty power that went along with his words. As soon as Christ called them, they left their worldly livelihood and followed him, they gave their lives to his service and became his disciples. Think about it. They left not only their "nets", but their fishing trade, and all that belonged with it, and also their family and friends. From that moment on, their focus—the center of their lives, was Jesus.
God calls us to nothing less than what he asked of the apostles. Through the power of the Holy Spirit, in community with the Church—the body of Christ, we are also called to follow him.
Just as the apostles journeyed with Jesus in all their humanity searching for a deeper relationship, so do we. The journey involves taking risks, trusting in God, being open to change, and a conversion of mind and heart.
